About Wg.vcj	English (USA)
A $10,000 grand prize (courtesy of ES&S) and other prizes will be awarded during the VoComp University Student Voting Systems Competition and Conference, to be held July 16-18, 2007, in Portland Oregon. VoComp comprises a competition and an associated conference. In the competition, teams of undergraduate and graduate students will design, implement, and demonstrate voting systems. With support from the National Science Foundation, five finalist teams will travel to the finals in Portland, where they will conduct a mock election. The conference welcomes demonstrations and presentations on the competing systems, on election technology (even if not a full system), and on metrics for evaluating voting systems. All presentations of voting technology must be accompanied by working demonstration implementations. University student elections offer a focused setting for engaging students in nationally important, state-of-the-art security and privacy research projects and course work. Annual competitions motivate students to team, innovate, plan, implement, analyze, and present their achievements in a competitive and professional manner. Courses can benefit by tying into the competitions and using the materials and accumulated experiences. The result will be spirited innovation in election system technology, positively affecting students and election systems. For more details, see VoComp.org.
